The Future of NIPOST

With the advent of internet mail services including yahoomail, gmail and social medial sites such as facebook and so on, one will wonder what the future holds for Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

NIPOST on Monday, distanced itself from the allegation that the Ministry of Communications had concluded plans to hand over NIPOST to foreigners to manage. The Minister of Communications and Technology, Mr Adebayo Shittu, said that the reports were misleading and false and noted that the federal government does not intend to hand over the operations to foreigners at all.
A statement by Shittu’s media aide, Mr Victor Oluwadamilare states that there is no iota of truth in the handover report and that Nigerians should not be misled as the ministry has genuine intentions to reposition and revitalise NIPOST. The statement further added that the Government has  no plan to privatize the postal service nor hand it over to foreigners to manage. It said that the vision of the new NIPOST is a total transformation from being a mono-product service organisation to a one-stop multi-product service provider with the ultimate aim of making it a cash-spinning establishment that can make meaningful contribution to the country’s revenue base. The transformation will entail the diversification of services which will include rendering robust and all-inclusive financial services to be provided all over the country.(venturesafrica.com)
